This Mexican folk tale, about a dim-witted farmer who finds three bags of gold and his clever wife who helps him conceal it, is not only humorous and engaging, but also provides excellent fodder for discussion of the idea of a story’s “moral.” As students defend their position on the moral of the story, they will have to use evidence directly from the text.
