What’s the Main Idea?

In this playlist, you will practice finding the main idea of various passages.

1. Author’s Purpose Activity:

  • Answer the questions and choose “Check Answers.”
  • The green box will surround the correct answer.
  • Click “next” to complete all activities.
2. The Hamburger Game (Blue Ribbon):
  • Read or listen to the instructions by clicking on the speaker and click “Play.”
  • Click each sentence for help reading.
  • Choose the sentence that would be the main idea of a story and drag it to the hamburger.
  • The game will verbally tell you if you are correct or not.
3. Main Ideas/Supporting Details (Quia):
  • Click “Play Now.”
  • Read each passage and click on the answer that you think is the main idea.
  • Complete all questions, then click SUBMIT.
4. The Dallas Cowboys:
  • Read the passage and answer the questions about the passage.
  • Complete all eight questions.
