Waves
Playlist Title
Waves are everywhere! They are found in sound, light, land and water. Become a wave expert by experimenting and exploring these activities.
1. Waves:
- Read the introductions.
- Explore the movement of waves by experimenting with the green ball animation.
- Below the green balls, choose each of the blue arrow buttons and record your observations.
- Repeat as the density is changed.
- Click on each of the three links Amplitude, Wavelength, Frequency and click on the blue arrows for animations and questions.
- Click on RULER and line them up to measure the movement of the string.
- Create a wave on your string in MANUAL by moving the wrench up and down. Throughout this activity, always reset the string so it is straight on the dotted line. Write notes on all the observations.
- Change from MANUAL to OSCILLATE.
- Change to PULSE.
- Change the TENSION (how tight) in the string and create a wave.
- Play around with all the options on the screen. See what happens when you change them in different combinations.
- Read the directions.
- Click on each of the vocabulary at the top, read the definitions and click on the animation if provided.
- Click “Resume Game.”
- Click on each square to match a diagram to its vocabulary. Squares disappear when correctly matched.
- Read the introduction.
- Watch and read about the steps of a tsunami.
- Watch the full animation and explore details with the magnifying lenses.
- Choose which description best matches the animation.
