Understanding a Story's Structure, Point of View, and Word Choice
Over these four activities, you will be spending time reading stories and sentences to connect small pieces of them to the main idea. For instance, you will be looking at the details in a story and understanding how they relate to the big idea. Next, you’ll be playing a couple of games that look at sentences and individual word use - one by yourself and one with a few classmates. However, while the game is meant to simply be played as it is presented, you will be using a worksheet to create your sentences as well. Finally, you get to be creative by creating a DVD cover for a book you are reading. Remember, when you do this, you should spend most of your time finding the best way to explain the quotes you put on the back of your cover. Have fun!
