A Closer Look at Fossils

Practice what  paleontologist do to find and examine fossils in the real world.

1. Exploring Fossils and the Fossil Record (e-Learning for Kids):

  • Watch the tutorial about the importance of fossils and then explore different environments and learn about the fossils found there.
2. Virtual Dinosaur Dig (Smithsonian):
  • Read the instructions beside the dig site, help uncover the fossils, and transport them back to Smithsonian to identify what type of dinosaur you found
3. Can this Dinosaur Glide? (PBS):
  • Read introduction page and click LAUNCH INTERACTIVE.
  • Click on REVIEW BASICS and read instructions.
  • Select the LEG POSITION from the 3 choices that would help this dinosaur glide the best.
  • Set the angle of attack (flight).
  • Then, click on VIEW GLIDE PATH to see what would happen.
  • Try changing the settings to find out if you can make this dinosaur glide.
