Add and Subtract Unlike Fractions

In this playlist, you’ll review adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. Remember to reduce or simplify your answers.

1. First you will work on Add Unlike Fractions with Circles. 
  • Click “Start.”
  • Type in the fraction modeled by the picture. Click “OK.”
  • Type in the fraction modeled by the second picture. Click “OK.”
  • Add the fractions by using paper and pencil to figure them out. Type in your answer.Click “OK”.
  • Press “New Example.”
2. Play Math Splat until you make it through all 3 levels.

3. Next, play Football Math: Adding Fractions (Math-Play). Throw a good pass to the receiver in order to answer a math equation. Answer the equation correctly and receive more points.

4. Play Adding and Subtracting Fractions Game (Math-Play). 
  • Click the marker you would like to move around the board.
  • Follow instructions to play the board game.
In activities 5 and 6, you must scroll down to find the fraction word problems.  Read the questions carefully, answer all of the problems, and click “Check” to see what you got correct. Reduce your answers.

7. Finally, you will put together a lot of your fraction skills in Smoothie Maker.
  • Click on”Begin.” 
  • Go through the steps to complete all 3 different smoothie recipes.
  • In step 1, it is important to note, that you are turning the dial to reflect the denominator of the fraction for that ingredient.
